Herb Robert , Geranium robertianum

After the recent wet, cold weather it was very surprising to find this 1/2" flower today.

I took another picture today (5-30-2010) with better light that really brings out the vibrant colors in the flower.
Buds that will be opening soon.

Very pretty! On the close up it looks almost iridescent!

They are basically weeds with pretty flowers. There are lots of them growing along the driveway - there is a positive side to not having a tidy, weed-free yard!

Nice image!

It's actually a close relative of erodium. This image is the flower of Geranium robertianum (herb Robert is the english / USA name if I remember well).

Regards,

Peter (from the Netherlands).

Thank you, Peter, for the correction. In researching your comment I discovered that it is considered a "Noxious weed" in the state of Washington. I guess I should start pulling them out, but in the mean time, I'll enjoy the flowers!
